Celebrants Fees
One of the first questions often asked by some couples contemplating their wedding is, "What do you charge"? or "What is your fee"? Celebrants fees are not regulated and therefore may vary from Celebrant to Celebrant depending on a variety of factors. It is my practice to provide a Schedule of Fees clearly outlining my fee structure to all couples who book their ceremony directly with me. I also prefer to deal directly and personally with my clients in all aspects of the preparation of their ceremony including the legal components, the ceremony and the payment of my fee. This forms part of the Code of Practice for Celebrants.
However, many of the mainland and island resorts have taken it upon themselves the unacceptable practice of including the Celebrants fee in their "wedding packages" and some have adopted the policy of only including a fixed amount of the Celebrants total fee in their package. This therefore requires that the Celebrant then has the embarrasing task of charging the couple for any outstanding differences. I am of the opinion that this practice is not only unacceptable, it is also considered unprofessional, unethical and contrary to the Celebrants Code of Practice. Request a full break down of your package including the Celebrant's fees. Feel free to discuss ALL aspects of your ceremony with your Celebrant, including the payment of the Celebrant's fees. Remember, it's your wedding day.
Do it your way.
